Avoriaz Nursery Guide
All You Need To Know About Skiing With Kids In Avoriaz
If you are heading to Avoriaz with the family then you might need some advice on the best children’s nursery (kindergarten) options. And ski schools, which offer children’s ski introduction classes.
Let’s take a look what’s on offer.
Nursery and Kindergarten The Avrizou Nursery (Halte-Garderie Avirouz), situated in the heart of Avoriaz, is a wonderful environment for babies and children from 6 months to 5 years. State qualified nursery staff look after your little ones and entertain them with fun snow games on the sunny terrace and educational activities. Meals can be ordered if your children are staying for the day, and the nursery is also equipped with sleeping rooms. There is a capacity for 40 children to attend the nursery each day, so it’s best to reserve your space in advance. You can head off for a day on the piste happy knowing that your children are happy in a comfortable and safe environment, which has been approved by the Child and Mother Protection act. Opening hours: 8.45am until 5.30pm from 23rd December to 21st April. Children under 15 months are welcome for half-days only (morning or afternoon). Closed on Saturdays (exceptional opening, Saturday April 20th 2019).
Ski and Nursery Package
If your young ones are old enough to hit the slopes then the Avrizou Nursery ski + nursery package is a great option. The six day course is run in conjunction the French Ski School of Avoriaz (ESF). The mornings are spent on the slopes having ski lessons, and the afternoons are spent playing in the nursery. Your children will have the ski holiday of a lifetime! Contact the nursery directly for further information and prices.
Children's Ski Schools
There are a good selection of ski schools and private instructors in Avoriaz licenced to teach children to ski and snowboard. Classes and skills taught are adapted for the age of the child: Under 3 year olds can take ski lessons with a private instructor. If you are coming as a family or friends group, then you can organise a private group class. Most ski schools will accept children from three years. Three to four year olds can take lessons for one and a half to two hours per day. Lessons are taught in the snow garden, which is a safe environment for them to get started. 5 years plus and you can book them onto three hour lessons per day. But at this age, most instructors will still insist on private classes. There are usually group classes specifically for teenagers, which depending on their level, can learn to freestyle, off-piste techniques and freeride. Another option is to put them into adult groups.
Club Piou Piou Children’s Ski Classes
The ESF Avoriaz School (French Ski School of Avoriaz) offers introductory ski classes for children from 4 years old. In conjunction with the Avoriaz Nursery (above), beginners (4-5 years) will learn the basics in the snow garden to build confidence, whilst having lots of fun. 6-12 year olds will be taken onto the learner (nursery) slopes.
They will be taught to turn, control speed and use the ski lift. Classes are very personalised and each child can go at their own pace, and will leave with a medal at the end of the course.
Half or full day lessons can be booked, as well as week courses. Booking in advance is advised.
