Avoriaz Ski In/Ski Out

All You Need To Know About Avoriaz

The luxury of stepping out of your ski accommodation and skiing off down the piste is one that many of us seek out when choosing a destination and booking a ski holiday. Avoriaz offers just that. And according to the Daily Telegraph, Avoriaz is one of the Top 10 best ski-in/ski-out resorts in the world.

The purpose-built resort was created in the 1960s, and is set a few kilometres above neighbouring resort Morzine. The apartment blocks were designed to replicate the traditional wood chalets of mountain villages, and the result is rather charming.

The town is a car-free zone (only service vehicles can drive through). Cars are left in car parks outside of the village, and transfer services stop below at Prodain. Visitors make the final ascent to Avoriaz by cable car. Even the taxis are horse driven sleighs and for everyone else the mode of transport is on foot, skis or snowboards.

Ski in/Ski out

But you won't be doing this - lol

Avoriaz makes for the perfect family-friendly ski destination and in fact in 2013 Avoriaz was voted as the best family ski resort and best snowy resort in France. What accolades!

Avoriaz is a true ski-in / ski-out resort. Situated in the popular Portes du Soleil ski area, skiers can comfortably ski out in the morning, spend the day on the piste and then ski around town for some apres-ski fun.

The centre of the resort is a gently sloping plateau, which is divided into several mini neighbourhoods, where the resort’s bars, restaurants and shops can be found. The snow covered paths and pistes lend a friendly Alpine impression to the scene and as the town itself is compact, everything is close to hand and skiable, making Avoriaz and convenient and comfortable resort.

Avoriaz has a renowned apres-ski scene, made even better by its true ski-in / ski-out status. You can happily ski or walk from bar to bar and then ski back to your accommodation when you’ve had enough, or want to get ready for a longer evening of food and cocktails. No costly taxis are needed during your ski trip to Avoriaz!

And because Avoriaz is completely pedestrianised, it is completely equipped for children to learn to ski. The snow gardens and ski leisure areas are perfect for beginners and small children, who can learn to ski in safety, building their confidence as they start out on their ski adventure.

Avoriaz is also home to the excellent Village Les Enfant (link to our article on nurseries), a self-contained ski area for children, where kids from three years old can learn to ski in complete safety. Your children will have the most fun learning to ski and in the afternoons are treated to lunch and then fun activities in the snow.

All in all the ski-in / ski-out resort of Avoriaz is one of the best family ski resorts in France. It’s pedestrianised and completely child-friendly. It has excellent skiing conditions guaranteed between December and April, and apres-ski is a joy - skiing or walking from bar to bar. What’s more, access to Avoriaz couldn’t be easier, being only one hour from Geneva airport.
