Avoriaz ski resort is located in the Portes du Soleil ski region. The slopes benefit from being in the shadow of Mont Blanc, so you don’t get too hot whilst on the piste. And the village has a sunny aspect; perfect for apres-ski on one of the many terraces.
The family-friendly French ski resort is set in a spectacular and unspoilt landscape with views to the Dents du Midi and Dents Blanches. And with 650 kms of piste in the Portes du Soleil region, you can ski off in a different direction every day.
At 1800m Avoriaz is an excellent destination for high-altitude skiing with guaranteed snow cover from December through to April. The average snowfall during the winter season is plentiful, at an average of 8 metres, which matches some of the highest European ski resorts. In 2013 Avoriaz was ranked, The French Resort with the best snow coverage, by the Financial Times and Weather to Ski.
The best skiing days to be had in Avoriaz are known as Bluebird Powder days. These are days when it’s mainly sunny with light winds, following recent snowfall. Visibility may not always be the best, but the snow is always deep and fresh. Perfect powder for skiers and snowboarders.
Snow depth at the beginning of the 2018-19 season (15th December) was at 115cms. By the end of the 2017-18 season in April 2018 the snow depth reached 520cm.

If you are considering booking your summer holidays in the French Alps, then you can expect warm and pleasant temperatures. From May through to September the weather is generally pleasantly warm, although August is actually the wettest month of the year in Avoriaz. July tends to be the warmest month, before the rains arrive. September remains warm and is perfect alpine hiking weather.
